Privacy policy.

The short version

This is a website about chickens and vegetables, run by one household. We collect an email address if you give us one, and anonymous numbers about which pages get read. We don't sell either, and there's no advertising network anywhere on this site.

The newsletter

If you sign up, we store your email address, the date you signed up, and which page you signed up from. That's the whole record.

It lives in our own database on Cloudflare, not with a mailing platform — nobody is holding this list on our behalf or charging us per subscriber to sit on it. We use it to send the newsletter and nothing else. We don't sell, rent, trade, or share it.

You can leave whenever you like: use the unsubscribe link in any email, or the unsubscribe page. It takes effect immediately.

Unsubscribing marks your address as inactive rather than deleting the row, so a stale export can't quietly put you back on. If you'd rather it were erased outright, email hello@yolkandroot.com and we'll delete it.

One deliberate quirk: neither the signup form nor the unsubscribe form will tell you whether an address is already on the list. If it did, anyone could use this site to check whether a given person subscribes — so both give the same answer either way.

Analytics

We use PostHog to see which posts get read and where readers come from. It records page views, clicks, and the usual technical details a browser sends — approximate location from your IP address, device type, referring site.

Those requests go through this domain rather than straight to PostHog, because content blockers drop the direct ones and the readers running blockers aren't a random sample. It's the same data either way; it just isn't routed through a third-party hostname.

Analytics is anonymous by default — no profile is created for a visitor. The one exception is a newsletter signup, where we tag the session so we can tell which posts actually lead to subscriptions. Even then, what we send PostHog is a one-way hash of your address, never the address itself.

PostHog stores a first-party cookie and a little browser storage to recognise a returning visit. If you'd rather not be counted, a content blocker or your browser's "block cookies for this site" setting is enough — the site works fine without it.

The bot check

The signup and unsubscribe forms are protected by Cloudflare Turnstile, which works out whether you're a person before we accept the form. It's a privacy-preserving alternative to a CAPTCHA — it doesn't track you across sites and there's nothing to click. It sees your IP address and some browser signals to make that call.

Hosting

The site runs on Cloudflare, which handles requests and keeps short-lived operational logs of the sort every web server keeps. We also cap how often one address can submit a form, which needs your IP address for as long as that cap lasts.

What we don't do

• No advertising, no ad networks, no retargeting pixels.
• No selling or sharing your email address. Ever.
• No third-party fonts or embedded widgets phoning home — the fonts are served from this domain.
• No tracking you across other websites.

Your choices

• See what we have. Ask and we'll tell you — for the newsletter it's the three fields listed above.
• Delete it. Ask and it's gone from the database.
• Stop the emails. Unsubscribe, no email required.
• Opt out of analytics. Block cookies for this site or run a content blocker.

Children

This site isn't aimed at children, and we don't knowingly collect anything from anyone under 13. If a child has signed up for the newsletter, email us and we'll remove the address.

Changes

If what we collect changes, this page changes with it and the date at the top moves. There's no version where we quietly start doing something the page says we don't.
